Satellite facility of iPhone will work in designated areas only
The next iPhone's satellite communication service may not have the opportunity to be considered as an alternative communication service everywhere. According to Bloomberg, Engadget reports that emergency satellite call and messaging services for the future iPhone (possibly iPhone 13) will only be available in designated areas and later where there is no cellular coverage.
If this claim by Bloomberg's Mark Garman is true, you may not get the iPhone's satellite service as a backup of cellular communications in your area.
Garman said Apple wants to consistently launch its own satellite service for more data coverage. However, the implementation of this plan may take several years. Also, you are less likely to get a non-emergency calling service soon.
Although the customized Qualcomm X60 modem to be used in the next iPhone will be used for satellite service but it will not be able to fully serve satellite phones. In addition, the cost and objections of operators may hinder Apple from providing satellite services.
